Michael Owen believes Aston Villa can achieve exceptional things under the leadership of Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard talks about facing Liverpool

Gerrard left Rangers for Aston Villa in November, when the club sacked Dean Smith after five consecutive defeats. After a positive start, Villa had a difficult series of matches, when they only won 1 out of 7 matches at the beginning of the year.

Since then, they have returned with three consecutive wins against Brighton, Southampton and now Leeds. Phillipe Coutinho scored his fourth goal of the season as Matty Cash made it 2-0. Calum Chambers, who arrived from Arsenal in January, scored a third against Leeds to push Villa up to ninth.

Gerrard is making an impression with Villa.

Villa have escaped relegation, but Owen thinks they can do much more: “It looks like they can achieve something quite special. I think this season could be a bit premature. ,  but next season I could see them go into Europe.”

Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson said: “Villa had a good game, Leeds played extremely poorly. We saw the game against Tottenham, really bad, nothing has changed. . They looked terrible again today. They looked lack of confidence, lack of leadership and Villa was still playing well.”
