Aston Villa’s official website announced last night that they have completed the signing of defender Calum Chambers from Arsenal. The move came as a surprise, as there are no rumors that Villa is close or even interested in signing Chambers during the winter transfer window. The fee for the deal was not disclosed. According to calculations, Arsenal will save about 2 million euros in wages and fees related to Chambers.
In farewell to the Gunners on his personal Instagram, the 1995 midfielder wrote: “7 years and a lifetime of memories! A special thank you to Arsene Wenger for making that happen and all the staff at London Colney who have supported me into the next chapter of my life.”
“Last but not least, thank you to the fans who made this experience so memorable.”
Unexpectedly, the first commenters on this status line were two former Gunners: Mat Ryan and Emi Martinez.
Martinez is also a similar case with Chambers when he was not used too much at the Emirates Stadium and went away to find opportunities to be used in the first team.
Meanwhile, former captain Granit Xhaka sends his best wishes to the junior. He wrote: “Wish all the best, brother”.
